Google builds VR180 for immersive video editing

Google VR180 Creator

R180 Creator simplifies the video editing process for people in creative fields.

Recently, Chief executive Sundar Pichai, in a blog post outlining the company's artificial intelligence policies, noted that even though Google won't use AI for weapons, "we will continue our work with governments and the military in many other areas" including cybersecurity, training, and search and rescue.

Google has designed new VR180 Creator tool for Mac and Linux which makes it easy to edit footage from cameras using the immersive format.

VR180 Creator converts footage into a standard format so you can edit it with suites like Adobe Premiere and Final Cut Pro. If you want to try out the VR180 Creator, you can download it from here. The tool will help users to create and edit high-resolution VR videos. A tool to convert footage for editing is a smart, and probably necessary, way to open up the format a little more.

An early adopter said, "I love that you don't have to move the screen with these videos when you're watching on your phone/comp. Looks awesome in or out of headset".

If this type of footage is something you're looking to capture, note that a Lenovo Mirage camera costs $300, now available on B&H Photo.

The software offers two important features for users including the raw fisheye footage conversion and VR footage conversion for YouTube. Google has also brought out its VR180 app through which you can seamlessly upload to Google Photos or YouTube as well as allow users to go for livestreaming directly.
