France on G7: 'Fits of anger' can not dictate worldwide cooperation

In a flurry of tweets from Air Force One, Trump - on his way toa meeting in Singapore with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un - also announced that he was withdrawing his support from the declaration.

Donald Trump's top economic adviser is accusing Justin Trudeau of betraying the US administration hours after the president himself launched insults at the prime minister, calling him "very dishonest and weak".

Trump said in another tweet that Trudeau was "meek and mild" during their private meeting, only to hold a news conference calling the USA tariffs "insulting".

U.S. President Donald Trump recently slapped tariffs on Canada, Mexico and the European Union, angering his counterparts before he arrived at the summit.

The group of seven nations that make up the G7 are Canada, France, the USA, the UK, Germany, Japan and Italy.

Canada's Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds a press conference at the G7 Summit in the Charlevoix town of La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada, June 9, 2018.

Peter Navarro, a trade adviser to President Donald Trump, escalated the White House's rebuke of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, calling him weak and dishonest on Sunday. Trump is due to meet with North Korea's Kim on Tuesday.

Donald Trump accused the summit's chairman Justin Trudeau of dishonesty.

"It is not something we relish doing, but it is something that we absolutely will because Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said.

But Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday on ABC's "This Week", "I'm not so sure John's right about where America is on trade".

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the G-7 nations said in their joint communique issued at the conclusion of the two-day summit in Canada.

Kudlow, the conservative economist who directs the National Economic Council, was upset with Trudeau's comments at a press conference after the contentious Group of 7 summit in Quebec.

Canada's foreign minister, Chrystia Freeland, said her country "does not conduct its diplomacy through ad hominem attacks".

Trump swiftly responded to Trudeau by upending the communiqué in a series of tweets Saturday evening. "It's going to stop, or we'll stop trading with them".

Earlier in the day, Trump had said there should be "tariff free" trade between the G-7 nations, though he did not elaborate on how or whether the United States would reduce barriers. "I understand the president was upset".

Mere hours earlier, Trudeau had announced that all G7 countries had signed the joint communique.

On Twitter, Mr. Trump called his remarks "very dishonest and weak", citing Canada's imposition of tariffs on dairy products.
