Fallout 76 is an online game with a solo online mode

Previous Fallout games have enjoyed extensive mod support, but as an online game with an inextricable multiplayer focus, the Fallout 76 situation wasn't so clear. It sounds like the game requires an online connection, and it all runs on dedicated servers, according to Bethesda boss Todd Howard. That is, after he teased a Skyrim Alexa Edition which, honestly, looked pretty great. That means that Game Pass subscribers can now play the entirety of Fallout 4 with their existing subscription.

Last but not least, Bethesda announced the game's special edition.

One of the big questions about Fallout 76 is whether or not it will support mods. We saw a repeat of the footage shown earlier in the day at the Microsoft E3 2018 conference. There are tons of new creatures in the game, including a gross mutant toad, awful bug creatures, and creepy people who undoubtedly got a bit too much exposure to nuclear fallout. There must be a reason all the insane monsters we see aren't in Fallout 3, which is relatively close by geographically. The size of Fallout 76's map is roughly four times the size of Fallout 4.

Starting July 4th, anyone can visit the iTunes store to purchase the Inkspots-inspired cover of the classic John Denver song "Take Me Home Country Roads" as heard in the Fallout 76 trailer.

As for the setting, the game is going to be set in the hills of West Virginia, "a very different and untamed wasteland".

Under the threat of nuclear annihilation, you'll experience the largest, most dynamic world ever created in the legendary Fallout universe. Players might want to bulk up their defences by raiding nearby nuclear missile sites for launch codes. You can even set up shop to trade goods with other survivors.

You play as one of Earth's "best and brightest", kept safe in Vault 76 so that you could help rebuild America by exploring West Virginia.

There's a new system to set up a crafting outpost wherever you like, and six distinct regions to explore.

Launching on November 14 of this year, as an online title this will be the first time that Bethesda conducts a beta for a Fallout title.
