Dustin Johnson shares 54-hole lead at FedEx St. Jude Classic

Dustin Johnson back to world No 1 after St Jude victory

Putnam went even better, wielding a hot putter for a 64 to join Johnson at 15-under 195, the duo five shots clear of Stewart Cink (64).

"I have high expectations going into every week", Johnson said when asked about the U.S. Open.

"I feel like my game is in good shape", he said.

At 3 under, Johnson opened with a 6-foot birdie putt on No. 10 only to bogey Nos.

Nobody has ever won on the PGA Tour and followed by winning the U.S. Open.

Cook's 5 under on Sunday tied him with Phil Mickelson and Tim Herron for the best scores of the final round and moved him up the leaderboard into a tie for sixth.

Johnson will now head to NY to begin his search for a second major championship at the U.S. Open hosted by Shinnecock Hills.

He is bidding to win the season's second major for a second time after claiming the title at Oakmont in 2016.

In pure Johnson fashion, he finished the tournament off in style by holing out for eagle on the final hole. Instead, he rolled in the putt to keep his lead, and birdied the 13th to increase it to three. "For me, playing the way I did all week, playing the way I did today knowing everything that was on the line, gives me a lot of confidence going into next week".

Johnson had already shown off his ludicrous velocity earlier in the day by hitting a 307-yard drive with an iron on the hard par-4 10th hole. I've earned my way here. "I'm proud of the way I played, the way I handled it".

He had won his only two previous starts at the event, the only PGA Tour wins of his career. "It's one of those days you like to have". He shot a 79 in the first round.

Johnson, who is looking to go back to world number one just before the US Open with a win in Memphis, carded a third-round 65, with Putnam shooting a six-under par 64.

Luke List plays in the second round of the St. Jude Classic golf tournament at TPC Southwind, Friday, June 8, 2018, in Memphis, Tenn.

He holed out for eagle from 170 yards on the final hole to seal an emphatic six-stroke victory at the St. Jude Classic.
