America's Got Talent star Neal Boyd dies age 42

Neal Boyd sings during the Republican National Convention in Tampa Fla. on Aug. 28 2012

"America's Got Talent" Season 3 victor Neal E. Boyd died Sunday of heart failure. His backstory was appropriately bittersweet; as a young man who grew up in poverty, an insurance salesman turned opera singer followed his dream with the support of his family behind him.

Boyd won the show in 2008, wowing judges and audience members with his operatic voice.

The TV star passed away at 6 pm on Sunday in his hometown of Sikeston, Missouri.

It's claimed that Neal was at his mother's home in Sikeston, Missouri in the USA when he died.

Scott County Coroner Scott Amick said Boyd, who was seriously injured in a vehicle crash previous year, had a number of medical problems, including heart failure, kidney failure and liver problems. His post-Talent career included an album, My American Dream, and performances for multiple US presidents. "[Recovery is] a very slow progress". In addition to his music career, he ran for an empty seat in the Missouri House of Representatives in 2011.

He went on: "Any time you're in a moment of struggle, God has a way of coming in and uplifting you".

The Missouri native noted that "it just feels like something great is about to happen once I get back on my feet and back in front of the audience again". The two were rushed to hospital at the time, with TMZ claiming that both Neal and his mother had been "slowly recovering" since then.
