All Apple employees now have standing desks. Here’s why

Apple CEO Tim Cook believes the desks will help employees counter the harmful long-term effects of constant sitting while working.

During the interview the CEO Cook said that all the employee chairs in the building are slightly uncomfortable with a goal. Not only do employees get to bask in the surroundings of the attractive, 175-acre complex, but those working in the doughnut-shaped headquarters also get to use standing desks. An unhealthy amount of time spent sitting at our desks, working away on computers, and barely getting any exercise.

Apple didn't respond to a question from Business Insider about the specific model of standing desk its employees use. "If you can stand for a while, then sit, and so on and so forth, it's much better for your lifestyle", Cook added. The desks have up and down controls.

Nobody knows yet which desks will be in use at Apple Park but we feel fairly safe in the assumption that no matter which are chosen, they won't be cheap.

Cook has commented in the past about how sitting for long periods may result in health issues further down the line.

"The new cancer", according to Tim cook, it is a disease of the XXI century, when all the work while sitting completely still. He said this while describing the nudge feature in the company's smartwatch, Apple Watch.

According to Santa Clara County Assessor Larry Stone, Apple's new spaceship campus might have cost as much as $5 billion. However, Cook revealed that the chairs of the employees have been deliberately made to feel a little uncomfortable, so as to motivate them to get up more often. Opened previous year, it is said to be to be one of the last projects that the company's co-founder Steve Jobs worked on. The campus, which was designed by architecture firm Foster + Partners, covers 2.8 million square feet and accommodates 12,000 employees.
