Alec Baldwin: I'd '1,000 percent' win if I ran against Trump

Alec Baldwin

Baldwin told Stern that if he ran for US president in 2020, he would "one-thousand per cent" beat Trump.

Alec Baldwin may be positioning himself for a 2020 presidential race against the man he plays on TV. "I think [Trump] needs something, a win, to obscure that he's going to fire Mueller".

He added, "I would absolutely win".

The actor and notorious Trump impersonator told radio's Howard Stern that he'd "one-thousand percent" win the election if he ran against the real thing in 2020.

The comedian said that while he would have the "funniest, most exciting, most insane campaign", he is hopeful that "somebody great" will run instead.

Baldwin has previously been incredibly critical of the president, and regularly parodies him on "Saturday Night Live". But the only reason I say that is because I'd love to run for that kind of position, to have things be very common sense.

But the actor definitely has some ideas for the presidency.

Appearing on The Howard Stern Show last week, Baldwin spoke about how he could beat Trump in an election and that he learned the first lady enjoys his impression of her husband.

"Where are you then?" added Stern, who then mocked Baldwin's game-show hosting duties.

"Somebody great is going to come up, I hope", he said in a more serious tone. "She watched 'SNL.' She watched it online and she laughed and she said, 'That's him".

Baldwin said he wants Democrats "to have a smart opposition to keep them on their toes".
