U.S. official involved in fatal crash paid 'blood money' to leave Pakistan

Diplomatic sources say Col Joseph Emanuel Hall leaves in a 'special plane'

Colonel Joseph Emanuel Hall, the Defence and Air Attache at the US Embassy, was reportedly flown out of Pakistan from the Nur Khan Airbase in a special aircraft.

Weeks later, a second accident involving a U.S. diplomat and a motorcyclist also made headlines in the country but resulted only in minor injuries. But the diplomat was not arrested because of his diplomatic immunity.

A C-130 cargo plane that was sent to fly Col Hall out of Pakistan had to return last week after Pakistani authorities refused to let him board.

Later, the US Embassy also confirmed the development saying the US diplomat has left Pakistan.

In Hall's case, the agreement was reached several days before he was allowed to leave Pakistan but the details were kept secret, the media reports said. "We had no option but to respect the worldwide laws", said one official adding, some compensation will be given to the victim family.

Before the announcement, President Donald Trump had complained on Twitter that Pakistan had "given us nothing but lies & deceit" and accused it of providing "safe haven to the terrorists we hunt in Afghanistan".

Trump said: "The United States has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools".

U.S. defence attaché Col Joseph Emanuel Hall, who was earlier barred from flying out on an American military aircraft by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), was reportedly allowed by the government to leave on Monday, DawnNewsTV reported quoting diplomatic sources.

Richard Snelsire, a spokesman for the U.S embassy in Islamabad, did not wish to comment when contacted by Anadolu Agency.
