The funeral of Stephen Hawking invited time travelers

Time travellers welcome to Stephen Hawking's memorial service

This memorial service isn't the first time Hawking has been linked with time travelers.

At least 1,000 people plus time travelers from the future have a chance to attend Stephen Hawking's memorial service.

The renowned theoretical physicist, cosmologist and author died aged 76, on 14 March and his funeral took place at Great St Mary's Church, Cambridge.

But the Stephen Hawking Foundation, warned that just like modern-day entrants, "if you are travelling to the service from a different time, you will need to bring proof of where and when you were born".

To complete the registration, one must include their birthday, and London travel blogger IanVisits noticed that you can be born over two decades into the future, through December 31, 2018, and still apply.

The late scientist Stephen Hawking once threw a party for time travellers - although no one turned up.

'None did, but it seems flawless that the memorial website allows people born in the future to attend the service. "Look out for time travellers at the abbey".

In a Q&A, written up by Arts Technica, Professor Hawking said: "Einstein's general theory of relativity seems to offer the possibility that we could warp space-time so much that we could travel back in time".

'All things are possible until proven otherwise'.

Sarah Bridle, a professor of astrophysics at the University of Manchester, told BBC Radio that Prof Hawking, who was confined to a wheelchair for most of his life, had remained curious about the potential for time travel, even after his party in 2009.

In January a year ago, Prof Hawking posted a touching tribute to his family, friends and others who have "helped and supported me along the way and made my universe so full of life, love and energy".

He said that Einstein's theory of relativity suggests time travel is technically doable - but it's equally likely that trying to achieve it wouldn't end well for us.

His ashes will be interred at noon on Friday, June 15 at Westminster Abbey.
