Sanders scolded staff for leak of White House official's 'dying' McCain comment

White House aide dismissed McCain's views because 'he's dying anyway' – report

Sadler's comment drew condemnation from many corners, with former Vice President Joe Biden issuing a blistering statement Friday that said decency has "hit rock bottom" in the Trump White House. Sanders is refusing to otherwise weigh in on the comments or condemn them.

A White House official reportedly made what some saw as an insensitive comment about the ailing Arizona senator John McCain at a staff meeting Thursday, and McCain's wife quickly came to his defense on Twitter.

But if Trump has not set a tone of disrespect for McCain in his White House, how did this happen?

However, on "The View" Friday, McCain questioned how Sadler still had her job. Some colleagues said afterward that they were unhappy she made the remark, and the White House issued a written statement Thursday expressing respect for Mr. McCain.

Biden is responding to the dismissal of McCain's opposition to President Donald Trump's Central Intelligence Agency nominee.

"That was said in a private meeting inside the White House". And I want to say, since my dad has been diagnosed...

With support from her co-hosts, McCain continued to defend her father's character telling viewers it's because of him that she's always had something to believe in.

And House Speaker Paul Ryan spoke out, saying: "Look, John McCain's a hero".

She was at the meeting standing at the other side of the room and did not apologize for the comment, according to people in the room. "And that's just disgusting", she said according to a report by Axios on Saturday.

Sadler is a special assistant to the president.

"To say he's not a hero because he was a prisoner of war is stupid", Gerson added, alluding to President Trump's knock on McCain during the presidential campaign.

However, according to the staffers that were present on Friday, Sanders was more infuriated by the fact that Kelly's insensitive words about the Arizona senator's opinion on Trump's Central Intelligence Agency pick had been leaked to the media, rather than by the derogatory comment itself.

"We have a respect for all Americans and that is what we try to put forward in everything we do both in word and in action", Sanders said.

The original comment was made at a closed-door meeting attended by two dozen staffers on Thursday morning, one day after McCain released a statement calling on the Senate to oppose the nomination of Haspel.
