Reactions To Tim Cook's Duke Commencement Speech

Apple's Tim Cook tells graduates to be fearless

Apple chooses its products not to be customers, an opinion Cook emphasized again during Duke's graduation ceremony on Sunday.

Unsurprisingly, Cook also took the opportunity to take a swipe at the common data collection practices in the industry.

Cook, however, emphasized at Duke that Apple did things differently, explaining: 'We reject the excuse that getting the most out of technology means trading away your right to privacy'.

Although Cook said he didn't support Trump's policies, he credited part of Trump's analysis of the U.S.'s historical relationship with China.

"I wouldn't be in this situation", Cook told reporters from Recode and MSNBC in March.

Facebook came under fire earlier this year after it disclosed that it had harvested personal data of up to 87 million users through a political data analytics firm called Cambridge Analytica.

Cook's comments about privacy may also have been a reference to Google, which is a more direct Apple competitor. I was lucky to know someone who believed this deeply.

Cook has overseen the development of key new Apple products, like the iPhone X and Apple Watch, new services like Apple Music, and research on potential new categories like self-driving cars and augmented-reality glasses.

He said Apple is "respectful" with user information, a contrast to Facebook, which has been mired in an epic data scandal in recent weeks.

Many publications are taking this as a swing at Facebook by Cook, who famously said in an interview before that he would never have been in Mark Zuckerberg's shoes. We fail to guarantee every student the right to a good education.

In 2014, meanwhile, hackers were able to access private photographs belonging to celebrities before posting them online. Apple's CEO also went back to one of JFK's most known morals as he stated that regardless of each individuals passion and the paths they take in life they should all Aspire to leave this world better than what they found it.

"Fearless, like the students of Parkland, Florida, who refused to be silent about the epidemic of gun violence and have rallied millions to their cause", he said.
