PUBG's new event mode is a deathmatch called 'Desert Knights'

Pistols and SMGs are suddenly a little more viable

According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, PUBG Mobile earned about $1 million in its first week of having in-game micro-transactions available on both Android and iOS, comparatively Fortnite iOS made $3.7 million during the same time frame in the same countries.

The newest update will be live after 10 PM ET on May 2.

PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds' latest patch went live earlier this week on Xbox One, introducing some more bug fixes and optimisations for the battle royale title, including improved free-falling and parachuting, optimised "world loading" and more besides.

In terms of vehicles, the Aquarail will come in some new design variants.

The new weapon is the SLR, or Self-Loading Rifle, and is one of the weapons the game categorizes as a designated marksman rifle (DMR) well suited for those who prefer fighting from the relative safety of long range. This can be doubled to 20 rounds with a suitably extended mag as well. Developer PUBG Corp. notes the SLR is more powerful than the SKS, but also comes with more recoil. Players will have to wait, though, for the new "Savage" map to make an appearance. Found in the downtown areas of the map, the four-seater is pretty nippy, with the patch notes stating it offers the 'fastest way to blaze down a highway'.

With War mode, PUBG Corporation seems to have stumbled onto something that players love, so it's not much of a surprise to see it returning as this weekend's limited-time game mode.

PUBG Corp. announced the news in a Steam blog post, but strangely did not share it on Twitter or though other social channels. Players have the option of picking one map that they would like to play on, and the game will match them with other players on that map. It will also implement several weapon balance changes which will decrease the damage of some assault rifles while increase damage for some pistols, SMGs, and LMGs.
