Palestinians and Israeli troops clash in West Bank on Nakba day

Traditionally, May 15th is the day Palestinians mark the "Nakba" or "Catastrophe".

Israeli media reported some tents where protesters have been gathering have been taken down at the border.

Palestinians had been protesting the opening of the new USA embassy in Jerusalem, the eastern part of which they claim as their own capital.

Israel lays the blame squarely with Hamas, accusing Gaza's Islamist rulers of war crimes.

The president of Turkey claimed that Hamas is not a terrorist organization in a Tuesday tweet directed at Israel's prime minister, calling Hamas's enemies "oppressors".

Some of them and others, including China, called for an independent probe into the events at the Gaza border.

"Those shocking and bloody images can't leave us without welcoming the decision of the government of Canada and other governments who didn't participate in the so-called inauguration ceremony of the USA on Palestinian land", said the statement from the Ottawa delegation.

"They can't do anything. They come with weapons of mass destruction", said Abdullah. All that we can do is demonstrate.

Saeb Erekat said that the Palestinian leadership would file a legal case against Israel with the International Criminal Court over settlement activity on occupied Palestinian territory. On Monday, the leaders of the Congressional Progressive Caucus called on Israel to stop using live ammunition against nonviolent protesters.

The envoys from China, Sweden, and the Netherlands also went out of their way to reiterate their government's position that Jerusalem's status should be left to negotiations and their intention to keep their embassies in Tel Aviv. Speaking to the European Parliament last month, French President Emmanuel Macron put Ankara and Moscow in the same bracket, saying he did not want the Balkans to "turn towards Turkey or Russian Federation".

Foreign Affairs Minister Simon Coveney said earlier expressed his "profound shock" at the killings in Gaza and said that nothing he had seen from the protesters had justified that response from Israeli troops.

The talks opened at United Nations headquarters in NY with a moment of silence for the 60 Palestinians killed.

"We know the riots are well organized, well funded, and well orchestrated by Hamas, " he added.

"No country in this chamber would act with more restraint than Israel has", she said. "In fact the records of several countries here today suggest they would be much less restrained". His comment followed a decision by Turkey to order Israel's ambassador to leave.

Middle East countries as well as United Kingdom and European Union have condemned Israel's violence against Palestinian protesters in the wake of U.S. relocation of its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

He strongly condemned the disproportionate use of force by the Israeli army, which resulted in the killing of more than 50 Palestinian demonstrators, while many more were injured.

Mladenov also chided Hamas, saying the militant political faction that controls Gaza should not use the protests to breach the fence to carry out attacks on Israelis or provoke its soldiers.

"The location of the embassy has no bearing on the specific boundaries of Israeli sovereignty in Jerusalem or the resolution of contested borders".

"Such violence is destructive to peace efforts and we call on all sides to show restraint", she said.

Interestingly, none of these countries supported the US during a vote in December past year to back the recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel.

Israel did the same to the Turkish consul in Jerusalem. Palestinians want East Jerusalem as the capital of their future state.
