Emergency services attending the explosion in Aliso Viejo

The person who died was inside the building when the blast occurred.

Investigators are considering the incident as an intentional act, due to the size of the explosion.

Orange County Sheriff's Cmdr.

One person was killed and two were injured in a gas leak explosion in Aliso Viejo Tuesday, authorities said.

The explosion at the office building in Aliso Viejo - about 50 miles (80.5 kilometers) south of Los Angeles - blew siding off the walls, exposing insulation and framing.

However, he says no explosive device has been found in the building and investigators still aren't saying whether the explosion was accidental or intentional. The official said the information was based on a preliminary investigation.

Sheriff's officials said the size of blast made it suspicious. Mr. Bommarito said all three were expected to survive. The building is on a cul-de-sac; another large medical building for Memorial Care Medical Group is next door, and a private preschool, Academy on the Hills, is across the street. He referred to the explosion site as a "crime scene".

McWilliams said she saw two burned women staggering out of the building, covered in ash and soot.

Bommarito could not provide the status of the three individuals taken to the hospital. The other woman was bleeding from her head.

A third person suffered smoke inhalation, fire officials said.

There was a daycare located across the street from the building with the explosion, but officials confirmed no children were injured and they were working to reunite the kids with their families. Babies were seen being wheeled out of the facility in cribs, and toddlers held hands with each other and firefighters as they walked to a nearby Target for safety.
