Narendra Modi trying to 'influence' Karnataka voters with Nepal temple visits: Congress

Karnataka elections Ashok Gehlot targets Modi for Nepal temple visits says ploy to'influence voters

The Congress on Saturday alleged that PM Narendra Modi's visit to temples in Nepal is aimed at influencing voters in Karnataka where polling is being held today.

Senior Congress leader Ashok Gehlot today kicked off a storm when he targeted PM Modi of playing the Hindu Card by visiting temples in Nepal.

The Karnataka elections took place on Saturday, the second day of PM Modi's visit to Nepal. He also offered prayers at the Pashupatinath temple, located on the banks of the Bagmati river.

"This is not a good tradition in a democracy".

The two countries have also agreed to expedite implementation of all pending projects of bilateral cooperation by Nepal's Constitution Day in September, said Oli adding that multiple bilateral ministerial meetings will be held. "Why did he only choose today as the day?" the Congress leader said. "It clearly shows that Modi came to know that BJP would be defeated".

After offering prayers at the Pashupatinath temple, Mr. Modi signed the visitor's book and was presented a miniature replica of the temple.

"When Prime Minister Modi had telephoned Prime Minister Oli upon his election as the Prime Minister of Nepal, they had discussed the visit then".

India and Nepal, during Modis visit, agreed to address all matters by September 19 - Nepals Constitution Day. "Jai Pashupatinath! Feeling blessed after praying at the majestic Pashupatinath Temple in Kathmandu", Mr. Modi said in a tweet.

On the Nepal visit being planned earlier, the former Rajasthan chief minister reiterated that the prime minister had timed his Nepal visit to coincide with the Karnataka polls. Election Commission has clearly said that no one can do a roadshow.
