Microsoft Extends Digital Game Gifting to the PC

Have you gifted someone an Xbox game or subscription in the past?

Microsoft notes that while most PC games on the Microsoft Store should be available for gifting today, all games - PC and Xbox One (sorry, you won't be able to gift Xbox 360 or original Xbox games yet) - should be giftable starting tomorrow.

You will need to know the recipient's email address (Windows 10) or Gamertag (Xbox One) to gift the game. Further, all Xbox One games are now eligible for digital gifting. For a complete rundown of the terms, conditions, regulations and all that, head over to the Xbox Wire.

Now if you go to the Microsoft Store, for PC titles you will see a Buy As Gift button that when clicked will open a dialog ask who you wish to send the gift to.

Microsoft announced yesterday that it has enabled digital gifting for PC games on the Microsoft Store, just a couple of months after it did so for Xbox One games. According to Microsoft, it seems that this feature has been popular amongst Xbox gamers, so much so that they've made a decision to extend it to the Microsoft Store as well.

You can make gift purchases from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10 or on Xbox One.

On sending, the recipient will receive a redeemable code that will let them download and install the content. Gifts also have to be redeemed in the country they were purchased in. Gift buyers can only buy 2 products with a discount and a total of 10 products with a discount every 14 days. Additionally, you can not gift pre-orders or consumable DLC such as in-game currency.

The new move is on the same line of last fall when Microsoft allowed its users to digitally gift some Xbox One digital games, Xbox Live Gold and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions. It promises to facilitate gifting of paid PC and Xbox apps soon. They are often very passionate about the games they love and, more often than not, are inclined to gift their friends a copy to spread the joy around.
