Lenovo Teases An All-Screen Smartphone

Lenovo Teases An All-Screen Smartphone

Many Other technology have been released over the Past couple of years to empower so-called "bezel-less" layouts on contemporary phones.

All-screen phones look cool, but they challenge the manufacturer to find a place to put front cameras, sensors and other hardware.

In a post on Weibo (via Engadget) by Lenovo's President Chang Cheng, he seems to be teasing that the company could be working on a "true" all-screen smartphone. Therefore, we don't know if there's a notch or a bezel somewhere that makes some space for front-facing sensors. It also remains to be seen whether Lenovo Z5 is just a concept or a real product. Cheng states that the upcoming handset will have four technological breakthroughs and 18 patented technologies. Other than that, there were no details about where in the production process the Z5 is, or if that process has even started yet. The objective of the notch-at least in the case of the iPhone X-is to allow for the mechanics of the front facing camera, the earpiece, and more, to still exist on the front of the phone while not losing the claim that the screen goes from edge to edge.

Could Lenovo be the first company to launch a phone that literally has nothing on its front side except the screen?

It's always possible that Lenovo has some exciting new technology on its hands with the Z5, but for now, it's probably best to approach these teasers will a healthy dose of skepticism.

Last week, Cheng shared a different teaser for the Z5, showing off a render of the upper-left corner of the device and claiming that it boasts a 95% screen-to-body ratio.
