Kim's right-hand man in US for talks on North Korea summit

North Korean official Kim Yong Chol has arrived in NY for talks with the US Secretary of State.

Both had their lights on, and they were connected with hoses, leading the ministry to "strongly suspect" that they were engaged in a forbidden high-seas fuel transfer in violation of United Nations Security Council sanctions on North Korea.

Kim Yong Chol is the most senior North Korean official to meet top officials for talks in the United States since Jo Myong Rok, a vice marshal, met then-President Bill Clinton at the White House in 2000. Referring to denuclearization, Sanders said that, "as long as that is part of the discussion, we're going to focus on the June 12" date.

It said Japan has informed the UN Security Council of the May 19 sighting of the North Korean-flagged tanker, Ji Song 6, moored alongside the ship carrying a flag that's believed to be Chinese, in the East China Sea.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe discussed North Korea by phone on Monday and confirmed they would meet before an expected U.S.

Kim Yong Chol is a powerful surrogate for Kim Jong Un.

U.S. and North Korean envoys have also been meeting in Panmunjom in the demilitarized zone between North and South Korea, and an American "pre-advance" team is in Singapore to make logistical arrangements for the rapidly planned meeting.

Kim Yong Chol, a close aide of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and vice chairman of the ruling Workers' Party's Central Committee, arrived at New York's John F. Kennedy airport on a flight from Beijing.

Somewhat overstating the case, the paper said Moon "has adopted the North's position that the negotiations should agree to 'phased and synchronous measures, ' meaning the North gets benefits in exchange for incremental steps such as allowing inspectors to visit nuclear sites". -North Korea summit in June.

North Korean envoy Kim Yong Chol arrives at a hotel in NY, U.S., May 30, 2018.

But Kim would consider inviting a fast-food corporation to North Korea as a sign of goodwill towards the burger-loving Trump, officials with knowledge of the report told NBC.

He is also a former head of North Korea's Reconnaissance Bureau, an espionage and special operations organization.

Cho delivered the sobering assessment as US and North Korean officials resumed working-level talks aimed at closing that gap. He was linked by U.S intelligence to a cyber attack on Sony Pictures in 2014.
