Jay-Z to release new Prince album next year

Plus Disney beats a coyright lawsuit over

The new deal paves the way to a follow-up to Hit n Run, but not any of the catalogue that was subject to prior agreements with Warner Bros.

The newly announced agreement brings to mind the legal battle between Tidal and Prince's estate.

The press release reads, "Our only goal is to share Prince's music with his fans as he wanted..."

An interesting detail here is that this project aims to continue the series of music Prince began with TIDAL years ago.

The Prince Estate and global music and entertainment platform TIDAL have confirmed plans to debut highly anticipated new Prince music exclusively via the TIDAL streaming service.

This release marks a the culmination of Prince's sometimes rocky partnership with TIDAL, which resulted in the exclusive debut of HITnRUN Phase One and HITnRUN Phase Two on the streamer.

The 4:44 hitmaker, real name Shawn Carter, started up Tidal in 2015 in an attempt to create a more artist-friendly alternative to popular streaming services such as Spotify and Apple Music. In his home in Paisley Park, the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer kept a vault in which he archived his works over the course of his entire life.

After the first two weeks, the record will release elsewhere. However, if the Estate feels things are being handled respectfully, and Hov himself is involved in quality assurance here-I think we can at least be carefully excited for a new Prince album next year. The rapper even referenced the dispute and singled out the estate's controversial attorney Londell McMillan in the song "Caught Their Eyes", featuring the lines: "I sat down with Prince, eye to eye / He told me his wishes before he died / Now, Londell McMillan, he must be color blind / They only see green from them purple eyes".
