Iran would remain part of deal: Rouhani

Iran would remain part of deal: Rouhani

This comes as President Rouhani earlier urged the foreign ministry to start intensive talks with European parties to the Iran nuclear deal and urge them to give Tehran assurances that it will be able to reap the benefits of JCPOA after the U.S. withdrawal.

Sri Lanka has been a long-term buyer of Iranian light crude, but the two countries have had difficulties over global sanctions, especially in remitting money.

In what is seen as a last-ditch effort to save the accord after Washington's withdrawal, Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has embarked on a tour of world powers.

Iran also has a significant influence in Iraq through the Shia-dominated Hashd al-Shaabi militias who have been accused of human rights violations across the country. "We will take all necessary measures to prepare for the enrichment of uranium with no restrictions", Zarif said.

Mr Rouhani has said Iran would stay committed to the deal, which Britain, China, France, Germany and Russian Federation also signed, provided those powers could ensure Iran was protected from sanctions against key sectors of its economy such as oil.

The head of the elite Revolutionary Guards also warned against relying on foreign powers to guarantee Iran's interests.

On Sunday, Sirisena also urged promotion of all-out ties with the Islamic republic and a boost in oil import from Iran, official IRNA agency reported.

On Wednesday, Jafari cast doubt on European nations' ability to save the accord.

With the deal on shaky ground in the face of fierce opposition from hardliners at home, some analysts say Mr Rouhani faces the prospect of serving out his second term as a lame duck leader.

Two days later, the USA imposed sanctions on the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps financial networks.

Speaking on "Fox News Sunday", Pompeo said the United States was not aiming at Europe when it withdrew from the deal.

"It's possible. It depends on the conduct of other governments", Bolton said on CNN's "State of the Union".
