Houthi rebels in Yemen fire missiles at Saudi capital

Kono asks Iran to stay in nuclear deal

Although the withdrawal of the United States from Iran nuclear deal, a landmark worldwide agreement signed in 2015, was welcomed by the Saudi Arabia-backed Yemeni government, the move may worsen the situation in Yemen.

Mansour Saleh, an Aden-based political analyst and a member of the Southern Transitional Council, told Xinhua that "the expectations show that Trump's decision will cause no significant impact on the direction of the Yemeni conflict even during the foreseeable future".

"This hostile act... proves the continued involvement of the Iranian regime in supporting the Huthi militia with qualitative capabilities", Malki added.

Hidyani said that "Iran and Russian Federation made great gains in Syria and the USA administration is trying to create compensation by escalating indirectly against Iran that is largely involved in Syria".

"Since deal was inked, instead of behaving like a responsible member of the int'l community, the regime doubled down on its support for terror, providing unsafe weapons (such as ballistic missiles) to terrorist proxies including the Houthis In Yemen to target civilians in KSA", he added.

Saudi sources have claimed to intercept the incoming Yemeni missile.

Saudi Arabia is hoping to enlist USA support for a domestic nuclear energy programme.

The strikes came hours after Saudi Arabia's air defences intercepted two ballistic missiles launched by the Huthis that targeted the south of the kingdom, said coalition spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki.

On Monday, the Saudi-led coalition said it was behind two air raids on the office of the presidency in Yemen's rebel-held capital, which were reported to have killed six people and wounded dozens.

Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, announced its support for steps announced by US President Donald Trump regarding the withdrawal of Washington from the nuclear accord with Iran and supports the resumption of economic sanctions on Tehran which were suspended under the P5+1 deal.

Houthis have been controlling much of Yemen's north by force, including the capital Sanaa since 2014.

More than 10000 people have been killed in the war, which has displaced 3 million people internally and unleashed the world's worst humanitarian crisis, the United Nations says.
