Gerrard explains decision to take Rangers role

Josh Windass of Rangers vies with Andrew Considine of Aberdeen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen at Ibrox Stadium

He moved to Rangers within a week of Aitor Karanka's appointment as Forest manager in January and it remains to be seen whether Cummings is part of the Spaniard's plans for next season - or whether the Championship club will be happy to let him make his move north a permanent one.

Gerrard will officially take over at Ibrox from June 1, having signed a four-year deal earlier this month.

"The new manager will definitely be watching and it will be up to him who he brings in".

Previous meetings between the two clubs have in recent years proved to be something of a goals-fest with fifteen games yielding no fewer than 54 goals. If standards are about trying to win every game then they have slipped as we've lost too many.

"The players probably haven't produced what they're capable of consistently".

"So that's what we've got to take on board - what was missing from those games - and once they take stock of that and see what is required for next year, they will be up and running and they will be alright."

More news: Iran vows to restart nuclear program if deal collapses

Well, nerves were jangling after Hibs took a shock 3-0 lead in the game after just 22 minutes, before Rangers made a decision to wake up.

Nicholl, a former Manchester United defender, was one of the big names lured to Glasgow by Souness, with the likes of Terry Butcher and Chris Woods also arriving to spark a dramatic upturn in fortunes.

"We'll get them ready and sorted for tomorrow and whatever their futures hold, it will be good for some and other ones will have to buck their ideas up".

'Personally, I want to stay here but there's a lot behind the scenes that needs to happen, ' he said.

"That tells you there was enough in the club at that moment to turn things around, added with these three or four".

Working with numerous promising young players in the Liverpool academy, Gerrard made it clear that he has "had a magnificent time at the Academy".
