Georgia officer suspended after arrest of 65-year-old turns violent

A 65-year-old Georgia woman was pulled from her vehicle by an officer during a routine traffic stop, which has prompted an internal investigation by the police department as to why force was used during the altercation.

During the traffic stop, Campbell refused to sign her citation and didn't want to exit her vehicle, officers said.

"As I was watching the video, I had some major concerns about what I was seeing", Alpharetta Police Chief John Robison told WSB.

"All I felt was his whole body over me and I could feel the weight over me, grabbing at my belt", she said.

"Maybe I should not have used profanity", Legg added, "but its immediate effectiveness is not questionable and I do believe I acted reasonably under the circumstances".

"Legg is shown aggressively handling Campbell in the video, and Campbell can be heard screaming", according to The Hill.

'You need to get out of the vehicle, you're under arrest, ' Swerdlove says.

When the woman got out of the auto, Legg yanked her arm. Seconds later he makes his way around the auto and begins to yell at Campbell.

Legg was suspended immediately and the Alpharetta Police Department has launched an investigation.

A Georgia police officer has resigned after an aggressive confrontation in which he shouted a profanity a 65-year-old grandmother, police said. Legg wrote that it was comments like those that convinced him he wouldn't be subject to a fair, impartial investigation and convinced him to resign.

A video shows an officer cursing and forcefully grabbing Rose Campbell on a Georgia highway on Friday.

CNN was attempting to contact the former officer.

Authorities told the station that Officer Michael Swerdlove pulled Campbell over for not staying in her lane.

"Everybody does that when a cop gives you a ticket", she said. The driver would not sign the ticket and said she wanted to speak to a supervisor. Campbell did ask for a supervisor. When she would not comply, the officer opened the door and instructed her to step out of the vehicle. When the other officers did not immediately restrain and handcuff her I then freed her from her grasp on the seatbelt and she was escorted to the police vehicle. Due to her behavior on the side of the road, and after noticing the auto had dark tint and there was someone in the backseat, the officer asked her to get out and at some point advised she was under arrest.

The woman screamed, "This is a violation of my rights" and later said, "If you break my arm, we will have a problem".

"Back-up was requested and available officers responded to the scene", they said.

Neither of these officers have been identified. During the traffic stop, the situation escalated to multiple officers pulling on Campbell and one officer screaming expletives at her, reported WSB-TV.

"Get out of the auto", the officer said, attempting to pull Campbell from the vehicle.

"I felt violated", Campbell said during an interview with ABC's WSBT.
