Facebook suspends 200 apps over possible data misuse

Six million people completed the quiz, with some opting to share their Facebook data with the app. The users of said accounts allegedly used a popular personality app which includes answering questionnaires. But the committee believes that these answers do not provide adequate detail and have called on the company for further explanation of certain issues.

The Justice Department and the FBI are investigating Cambridge Analytica, the now-defunct political-data firm at the center of Facebook's data privacy scandal, according to The New York Times. If the audit happens, the chances of the number of third-party apps going up is likely. Companies like Twitter tend to have access to less private information than Facebook. The terms allow the myPersonality team to use and distribute the data "in an anonymous manner such that the information can not be traced back to the individual user".

Researchers from the University of Cambridge distributed the data gathered by the Facebook personality app myPersonality to hundreds of other researchers through a website without enough security provisions. But right after the announcement wherein the social media leviathan suspends 200 apps, Facebook once again finds itself in hot waters. Their conscientiousness, agreeableness and neurotic-ism are forthright for anybody.

Aside from the data set, the application was also able to collect information from around 22 million status updates from more than 150,000 users. Supplementary to that cater-cornered information, details such as age, gender and relationship status from 4.3 million people are also divulged by this app. Signed over from university lecturer to some students, this was a supposedly a course project on creating apps to process Facebook data.

In the months following the revelations regarding the Cambridge Analytica data breach at Facebook, social media users have discovered additional ways in which their information may have been misused. The data of these users profiles was not only shared with the Cambridge researchers, the data was available to anyone wanting to access it. They mentioned that the committee found Schroepfer's responses to questions lacking and asked Zuckerberg to appear or the Facebook CEO will face the consequences.
