Cowboys DT Maliek Collins suffers broken foot in OTAs

Dallas Cowboys: Terrell McClain headed back to Dallas?

The Atlanta Falcons agreed to contract terms with defensive lineman Terrell McClain on Friday afternoon. As a rookie, Collins also had a foot injury which caused him to miss most of training camp.

Lucky for him, this issue happened early enough in the offseason that he should still be ready for the start of the season in September.

The Cowboys did not draft a defensive tackle, but did acquire one during the draft by trading for Oakland's Jihad Ward. Primarily a backup throughout his career, McClain recorded a career-high 39 tackles and 2.5 sacks while starting 15 games in 2016. He can stop the run and has pass-rush ability, something Cowboys defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli noted when McClain came out of college.

Collins started last season as the under tackle when David Irving served a suspension to start the season and missed games later in the year due to a concussion.

The addition of Earl Thomas was the most speculated rumor during the 2018 offseason for the Dallas Cowboys and that saga is likely far from over.

McClain, 29, spent the 2017 season with Washington.

McClain could be an interesting partner for nose tackle Grady Jarrett, who has emerged as the Falcons' stalwart on the interior of their D-line. Zgonina was the Texans' assistant defensive line coach in 2013. With their rookie class being the exception, the Cowboys roster exists only on paper for a few more weeks until OTAs.
