CNY's Siobhan Fallon Hogan debuts new horror movie at Cannes (trailer, photos)

The film was screened in the 2,400-seat Grand Théâtre this Monday evening and, according to Variety.com, over 100 guests exited in protest, though many more believe half the viewers departed early.

In the years since it was announced, actual materials surrounding Lars von Trier's The House That Jack Built have been scant - an image here, the briefest of teasers there - but we don't need the sad Dane to tell us it "celebrates the idea that life is evil and soulless" to know what's coming.

Central New York native Siobhan Fallon Hogan joined a huge list of stars at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival to debut a new horror movie.

Matt Dillon, 54, stars in the 62-year-old-director's new flick, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday. "Torturous. Pathetic", wrote one attendee on Twitter, while entertainment reporter Roger Friedman described it as a "vile movie" that "should not have been made". "It's disgusting", one woman said on her way out.

The film follows Dillon's serial killer as he mutilates and strangles his victims, who are mostly women. According to an interview with the director, The House That Jack Built is supposed to draw parallels to the current political situation in the United States - particularly the rise of the new Republican president. He views each murder as an artwork in itself, even though his dysfunction gives him problems in the outside world. The trailer above isn't cut like your standard movie trailer - there's a lot of long stretches of silence.

Along the way we experience Jack's descriptions of his personal condition, problems and thoughts through a recurring conversation with the unknown Verge - a grotesque mixture of sophistry mixed with an nearly childlike self-pity and psychopathic explanations. Setoodeh reports that the film received a standing ovation at the Cannes premiere, which prompted someone sitting near him to declare: "They'll clap for anything".
