China banned from broadcasting the Eurovision after censoring Ireland's performance

WATCH TONIGHT: The first Semi-Final of Eurovision 2018!

Ireland's Eurovision entry Ryan O'Shaughnessy has welcomed the European Broadcasting Union's decision to ban China from airing the singing competition after the country censored his performance because of its LGBT content.

Unfortunately, the bookmakers don't have much faith in Malta's contestant this year, with odds suggesting Christabelle won't make it to Saturday's final.

The Eurovision final doesn't take place until Saturday - yet Sir David was already writing Britain off. Talk about Project Fear.

Nearly 600,000 people tuned in for the results of Tuesday's semi final to see Ryan qualify for the final.

In the finals, which will be held may 12, will play the victor of the first semi-final: Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Ireland, Israel, Lithuania.

A spokesman for parent company HunanTV told AFP that they "weren't aware" of edits to the Eurovision broadcast in China.

"We actually weren't expecting that when it happened first in the rehearsal, the two of us got a bit emotional on the stage", 25-year-old Alan said. It is with regret that we will therefore immediately be terminating our partnership with the broadcaster and they will not be permitted to broadcast the second Semi-Final or the Grand Final'.

Lisbon is hosting the global song contest Eurovision-2018.

It was a "very ugly and unfair situation" when the Ukrainian authorities barred Samoilova "so we are very glad that she will be able to show off her talent to the world this time round."

Barzilai, who reportedly fell down the stairs after it was announced that she had made it to the finals, said she was "proud and excited", and promised "to do whatever I can to bring next year's Eurovision to Israel".
