A high school is facing backlash after bringing a live tiger to its "king of the jungle" themed prom.
Wendy Higgins, the Director of International Media at Humane Society International told Newsweek Castellanos and others "are right to be outraged at the utterly inappropriate display of a caged tiger at the prom".
Christopher Columbus High School in Miami-Dade County invited some wild guests to Friday's annual dance at the Double Tree Hilton Miami Airport Convention Center ― the caged giant cat, along with a lemur, macaws and an African fennec fox, the Miami Herald reported.
In a Facebook post, she questioned why the tiger had to be there, asking "did this tiger ask to attend prom?" and "Why didn't anyone open the cage?"
Crespo said that while he doesn't agree with using animals for entertainment purposes, the tiger did seem OK to him. They insist that the animals were displayed in a "controlled" environment, with two police officers present the entire time.
"They're teaching these kids there's some satisfaction through the suffering of others", she said.
"I was appalled. We are animal advocates in this house", she said.

"The tiger is clearly looking for a way to get out of that situation, it's not hard to interpret that behavior", spokesman Ron Magill told the Herald.
Magill told the Miami Herald, "The tiger is clearly looking for a way to get out of that situation, it's not hard to interpret that behavior".
Magill said he was shocked the school chose to do such a thing and "didn't know what they were thinking".
"These animals are not entertainment", she said.
"Back in my day, we were lucky to have refreshments and some streamers at prom", 53-year-old Carole Purcell told LifeZette. It isn't hard to imagine a teen sticking their hand in the cage or getting close enough to be mauled by the anxious big cat.
There were a lot of people who called the school shameful. To traumatize the animal in a small cage, amidst lights and noise, is cruelty. "Who does this? @EarlyStart", one person wrote.
