Boston Dynamics SpotMini Robot Will Go On Sale In 2019

Clearly, the company is making progress with its next generation robots and how they can navigate the world. The announcement came onstage at TechCrunch's TC Sessions: Robotics event today at UC Berkeley. The SpotMini robots are expected to be used for security patrols or in construction companies to keep tabs on what's happening at building sites. It's unclear who will be able to buy them and for how much.

"That's a prelude to getting into a higher rate of production" in anticipation of sales next year, Raibert said. "We built them [behind the scenes], but with contractors/manufacturers".

On its website, Boston Dynamics highlights that SpotMini is the "quietest robot [they] have built". A year ago it was updated and now she can walk independently, using Autonomous navigation. Following on from the viral success of the dog that opened doors and went downstairs, the robotics company Boston Dynamics has now released a video of a model which can run with eerie similarity to a human.

At Amazon's robotic conference earlier this year, CEO Jeff Bezos posted a photo of him walking with one of the Boston Dynamics robot dogs.

The robot is able to move around on rough terrain and jump over objects using stereo vision, range sensing and other sensors.

In another new video, the Humanoid Atlas robot - which is almost five feet tall - is seen jogging outside on grass and jumping over a log. The terrain outside is uneven, and elevated at certain points.

Atlas is one of the latest humanoid robots developed by Boston Dynamics. The videos it has released of the SpotMini have shown the robot navigating around an office on its own, opening a door for a second SpotMini robot, and even resisting interference by a human. The price was not disclosed.
