Day 9 at the Commonwealth Games 2018 began on a disappointing note with news of two Indian athletes - Rakesh Babu, KT Irfan - being sent home for breaching the "no-needle" policy, but it turned out to be India's best day yet in terms of medals.

In the boxing ring, three men - Naman Tanwar (91kg), Mohammed Husammuddin (56kg) and Manoj Kumar (69kg) - settled for bronze medals. The biggest highlight of the day in Indian wrestling at Gold Coast was the win of Bajrang Punia.

Meanwhile, the Indian contingent had a great start to Friday with Tejaswini Sawant clinching a gold in women's 50m rifle 3 positions final with Anjum Moudgill coming second to clinch the silver. Indian shooters continue to delight and win medals.

Wrestler Bajrang Punia won a Gold - 17th for India - in Men's Freestyle 65 kg wrestling competition.

Bajrang, who won a silver in Glasgow four years ago, was awarded the victory by technical superiority as he didn't give an inch to his opponent. The Indian had come into the game after defeating Boe Warawara of Vanuatu 5-0 and Everisto Mulenga of Zambia 5-0 to seal a semi-final clash with the Englishman.

In the gold medal match of 65kg freestyle category, Bajrang Punia stepped up on the mat to face Wales' Charig Kane and he kicked off a star-performance. Sushil Kumar, Mary Kom, PV Sindhu, Saina Nehwal are some of India's top medal hopefuls at the event.

Aware, who was appearing in his first CWG, won gold in the men's 57 kilogram category in style. In the women's doubles bronze match (TT), Sutirtha Mukherjee/Pooja Sahasrabudhe lost 1-3.

India will be looking to end the competition on a high as all the action from the games continues.

India still stands third in the overall medals tally with a total of 14 golds and 31 overall medals.

Anish broke the Games record with a score of 30 after eight shots to win the yellow metal.

In women's 50 metre rifle prone, Tejaswini Sawant won a silver after finishing behind Singapore's Martina Lindsay Veloso.

Indian shooter Anish Bhanala created history by becoming the country's youngest ever gold medal victor at the Commonwealth Games.

The Indians are the reigning Asian champions, having won the title at the continental meet in Bhubaneshwar past year, and are among the favourites for a podium finish.
