Trump unleashes more outrage over Comey, calling ex-FBI director 'slippery'

Former FBI director James Comey is seen here being interviewed by ABC News. Comey spoke about the 2016 presidential election and the Hillary Clinton email probe

"Comey comes along and says, 'This reminds me of prosecuting the mob and essentially a mob boss that I'm having to deal with'".

In an ABC interview on Sunday, Mr Comey - who was sacked a year ago - lashed out at Mr Trump, describing him as "morally unfit to be president".

"Values matter", Comey said.

Former FBI Director James Comey tweeted on Sunday that he wrote in his new book about two presidents who represent "ethical leadership" and one who does not. "Impeachment, in a way, would short-circuit that".

Another Twitter user, who goes by the name Toby2Names, agreed that Mr Comey "may have some good points", but added that the interview was a publicity blitz for the book. The retired general pleaded guilty last December and is now cooperating with Mueller's investigation.

When Stephanopoulos asked Comey, "was President Trump obstructing justice?"

Comey told ABC News that he believes there is "certainly some evidence of obstruction of justice". While Comey does not outline the details of the information - and says he didn't see indications of Lynch inappropriately influencing the investigation - he says it anxious him that the material could be used to attack the integrity of the probe and the FBI's independence.

Reuters and other news outlets have obtained copies of Comey's book before its formal release.

Trump called Comey an "untruthful slime ball" and said it was his "great honor" to fire the veteran Justice Department prosecutor.

"Comey's PR tour reaffirms that his true higher loyalty is to himself", she wrote.

Puzzled readers turned to their dictionaries after Trump wrote on Twitter that Comey was "a weak and untruthful slime ball who was, as time has proven, a bad Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation".

The President and his allies have launched a forceful counterattack.

When asked if the Russians have something on Trump, Comey said it was possible. But he did not watch the entire program, the White House press secretary, Sarah Sanders, said.

In an excerpt shown Saturday, Comey said his belief that Democrat Hillary Clinton would win the 2016 presidential election was a factor in his decision to disclose the investigation into her emails.

In July of 2016, Comey announced that he wasn't recommending charges against Clinton, but stated that Clinton and her aides were "extremely careless" in their handling of classified information. After Clinton's loss, many Democrats blamed Comey, and Clinton herself has said it hurt her election prospects.

Comey said he urged Kelly to remain in the administration.

He said Trump "will stain everyone around him". Comey also revealed during the hearing that he documented his interactions with Trump because he was "concerned" that the President "might lie about the nature of our meeting". Trump has denied doing so and threatened to release "tapes" of the conversation to prove so.

Comey's firing came as the Federal Bureau of Investigation was probing possible connections between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia's meddling in the US election.

In the interview excerpt released Saturday, Comey said he did not remember "consciously thinking" about the election results as he made a decision to disclose that the FBI had reopened its investigation into candidate Clinton's email use.
