Sudan asserts to keep its troop in Saudi-led Yemen campaign

Al-Maliki said they were drones, the type used by Iran, and warned Saudi Arabia will respond against Houthi rebels and those supporting them. Saudi state media said air defences had intercepted a missile over the capital.

One of the drones was targeting the Abha global airport in Asir province, which led to a temporary suspension of air traffic, and a second was approaching a "civilian object" in Jizan province, Colonel Turki al-Malki said in a statement published by the state-run Saudi Press Agency.

The Houthi-run al-Masirah TV channel said the ballistic missiles targeted the Saudi Defense Ministry in Riyadh, among other targets in the kingdom's capital.

While in Saudi Arabia, he reportedly plans to meet several Saudi-based Yemen officials, including President Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who has resided in Riyadh for the past several months.

The company is building a 400,000-barrel-per-day refinery in Jizan, part of a new economic city on the Red Sea, which is expected to become fully operational in 2019.

Saudi Arabia and an alliance of Muslim states intervened in Yemen's civil war in 2015 to try and push back the Houthis after they drove the internationally-recognized government into exile in Riyadh. That same year in June, 17 Sudanese soldiers were killed and dozens more wounded at Midi of Hajjah province, in north-west Yemen.

"The coalition is working by all means to restore Yemen's legitimacy so it can become stable and secure", spokesman Colonel Turki al-Malki said in a statement.

According to Conflict Armament Research (CAR), the Qasif-1 drone is said to resemble Iran's Ababil-2 drone and is the latest in a line of weapons Tehran has allegedly sent the Houthis.

One of the drones was targeting the Abha worldwide airport in Asir province, which led to a temporary suspension of air traffic, and a second was approaching a "civilian object" in Jizan province, he said.
