Strike on Syria won't remain without consequences - Russian ambassador to US

Moscow says allied attack missiles not routed through Russian defense zone in Syria

Russian Federation said that the Western powers "cynically" carried out military action hours before a team from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons was set to begin an investigation into the suspected chemical weapons attack in the town of Douma in Eastern Ghouta that sparked the intervention by the United States and its allies.

The overnight strikes hit three sites - one in Damascus and two in Homs - which US President Donald Trump said were "associated with the chemical weapon capabilities of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad".

Earlier in the day, Chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the Russian General Staff Col. Gen. Sergey Rudskoy said that Russia might consider sale of the S-300 systems to Damascus following US-led strikes against Syria.

The combined decision by the USA and its allies to strike Syria comes after Russian Defence Ministry spokesperson Major-General Igor Konashenkov presented evidence claiming that last Saturday's alleged chemical attack in Douma was orchestrated.

"A pre-designed scenario is being implemented". Trump said he was prepared to sustain the response until Assad's government stopped its use of chemical weapons.

"Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not remain without consequences", the report said.

Antov added that it was not acceptable to insult Russia's president: "Insulting the President of Russian Federation is unacceptable and inadmissible".

Confirming her country's involvement in the air strike, UK Prime Minister Theresa May said: "We would have preferred an alternative path".

"The US - the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons - has no moral right to blame other countries".
