Shenmue 1 and 2 are heading to PC and consoles this year

SEGA announced that the Shenmue I & II is to be re-released for a new generation. However, they will have improved textures, higher resolutions and PC gamers will be gifted a bunch of graphic enhancement options. However, we suspect the modern option will fix some of the.wonkiness of the original game's controls.

On top of this, there'll be an element of novelty in the likes of the achievements included on all the platforms (PC via Steam, PS4's Trophies, and Xbox One), and there will be the opportunity to choose among Japanese and English dubs.

Shenmue I and II will be released digitally and physically at some point in 2018, priced at $29.99. Shenmue didn't lay the map for open world adventuring, but it did present a world with far more detail and nuance than the wave of games that followed GTA3 could even dream of. Shenmue 1 was released for the Dreamcast in 1999 with a sequel in 2001 for Japan and Europe only. The Dreamcast didn't sell particularly well, so this re-release will put the original games in front of many who missed out at the time.

While Shenmue II isn't quite as historically significant as its predecessor, it's arguably the better game.

At present, there's no word on whether or not those who play through these collections will be able to carry any information over to Shenmue III.

We knew it was coming - Sega's been teasing us for a couple of years now - but this is the first time we've had definitive confirmation.
