Sabbatini with early RBC Heritage lead, Johnson 5 shots back

Dustin Johnson shown at The Masters last week is in the field at the PGA Tour's RBC Heritage 2018 this week

Hilton Head: Rory Sabbatini battled through the discomfort of a sore back to shoot a seven-under 64 for first-round lead at the RBC Heritage, with world number one Dustin Johnson not far behind. "It is the key because 18 is not a forgiving hole", Sabbatini said.Johnson, who grew up in SC but is playing here for the first time since 2009, is coming off a tenth place finish in last week's Masters.

Both Poulter and Kim were later surpassed by DeChambeau, who reeled off four birdies in five holes before scrambling an excellent par at the last to close out a 64 - his lowest round on the PGA Tour. A birdie on the par-5 5th followed moved Redman back into the red, however that was short lived as another bogey followed on the 7th.

Poulter briefly took the lead alone with a 16-foot birdie on the par-3 seventh. After finding a bunker at 18, he sank a testy 12-footer for par to keep the second-round lead.

Kim posted a second-round 65 to climb eight positions alongside Poulter, who recorded a 64 to be within striking distance of DeChambeau.

"After Houston, I went home, spent a day with the kids, went to Augusta on the Tuesday, made the cut, and then came straight here and had an RBC day to do", he said. Kraft thought he would simply re-tee and play on without penalty.

Donald, a five-time runner-up in the tournament, produced a valiant response to his damaging, opening 76 as he clawed his way back to one-over par, but missing a birdie putt from five feet at his final hole cost him the chance to play another 36 holes.

After an eagle, two bogeys and three birdies on the front nine, American DeChambeau picked up shots at the 13th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes to leapfrog above Poulter and Kim. From there, he caught fire and reeled off three consecutive birdies, securing himself a tee time on the weekend. "I have a great feel around the greens and I feel really confident around the greens".

Poulter showed he's not done playing high-level golf with a bogey-free 64.

"It's nice. If you keep bogeys off your card you're generally going to have a good round".

"Confidence is definitely there".
