Pregnant singer shot dead for refusing to stand while singing

A pregnant singer was gunned down in Pakistan's southern Sindh province during a wedding ceremony Tuesday night after she refused to stand up on the gunman's request. The singer reportedly refused to comply to his demand apparently because she was pregnant.

Tariq Jatoi kept badgering Samina Samoon to stand up while singing but when she could not get up due to her pregnancy he shot her dead, police said. A man, identified as Tarique Ahmed Jatoi then asked her to stand while singing. After the refusal, the suspect shot her dead, according to the police.

In the video, the victim can be seen standing up and performing as her audience tossed money at her, and moments after she stood up, the singer was shot dead.

Jatoi, along with his two accomplices, has been arrested after the singer's husband filed a double FIR because of the killing of their unborn child, too, states the same report. The video clip, which appeared on Larkano News, was shared on Twitter by one Islamabad-based human rights activist, Kapil Dev. Though she was rushed to the hospital, she was pronounced dead.

The accused has been arrested and an investigation has been launched in the case.
