Philippe Coutinho could still receive the Champions League winners medal if Liverpool wins the title.

The Reds defeated Manchester City 2-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night to take them through to the semi-finals 5-1 on aggregate.

Roma and Liverpool are now in the semi-finals of the world's top club competition, and fans of the Merseyside club couldn't help but mention their former player following the victory by the Italians.

Meanwhile, one Liverpool fan claimed Coutinho could be making the same mistake Michael Owen made when he left the Reds for Real Madrid in August 2004.

Uefa guidelines state that the winning team will be given 40 gold medals, with the runners-up earning 40 silver medals. "Additional medals may not be produced".

Still, if it was up to supporters, perhaps their former No. 10 wouldn't get a medal at the expense of someone else, as Coutinho left Liverpool in somewhat bitter circumstances.

Coutinho featured in five of Liverpool's opening six group matches, as the Reds scored the second-most goals of any team in the group stages, with the Brazilian helping himself to five of those - including a hat-trick against Spartak Moscow.

The Brazilian midfielder, who appeared for Liverpool in the competition earlier this season, hasn't been eligible for Barca's Champions League games this season.

It is then up to the clubs to decide who should get one, and Coutinho is sure to be keeping his fingers crossed for Liverpool after seeing new side Barcelona crash out in the quarter-finals to Roma.

'I'd like to think if there's anything about Coutinho, if they do go on to win it, he says "no, I don't deserve that".
