Last Missing California Family Member Found Dead in Eel River

Kerala family missing in US

Searchers found a vehicle submerged between 4-6 feet under the water.

More than a week after an Indian family went missing in U.S., their SUV that had fallen into a rain-swollen Northern California river has been found with two bodies inside, authorities said on Monday, as per a report in the New York Post.

The Mendocino County Sheriff's Office said after the vehicle was partially removed from the river, 2 bodies were found inside the vehicle - later identified as 42-year-old Sandeep and 9-year-old Saachi Thottapilly.

Officials last week determined the vehicle belonged to the Thottapilly family.

Crews are still looking for the body of their 12-year old son, Siddhant Thottapilly.

Soumya Thottapilly was found in an area that was previously covered with water from the storm-swollen river, the statement said.

Cindy Bartley, assistant to Chief Deputy Coroner Shannon Barney, told India-West that the bodies of Sandeep, Soumya, and Saachi are now with the coroner's office. They soon found the vehicle, and divers reported feeling what they believed to be a person inside.

The coroner's office was also able to identify another body that was found on Friday as 38-year-old Soumya Thottapilly.

Divers then entered the vehicle and felt what they believed was a body inside, though visibility was described as "extremely poor" with the vehicle "encased in a large amount of sediment from the river".

Sandeep and family was in a maroon Honda Pilot with a California registration plate (7MMX138) and had last got in touch with their family in Surat on April 5.

According to the San Jose Police Department, the family of Sandeep Thottapilly was supposed to have arrived to visit a friend in the San Jose area on April 6 but did not make it as scheduled.

The California Highway Patrol reported April 6 that a witness had seen a vehicle go over the side of a steep embankment on US-101, south of Dora Creek in Northern Mendocino County. "Rest assured. We will spare no effort".
