Kellyanne Conway To ABC: Comey 'Swung The Election'

Kellyanne Conway: James Comey 'Swung' 2016 Presidential Election

Senior White House advisor Kellyane Conway was sent to the media wolves and enduring the wrath of those on social media in the wake of the explosive ABC interview with former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey, who had some harsh critique of the president.

Conway's comment, a reference to Comey's October 2016 announcement that the FBI had restarted its investigation into Trump's Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, contradicts the White House's long-standing position.

"The president is very confounded that this person is always able to divert the spotlight to him", Conway said during an appearance on "Good Morning America" on ABC.

Her comments came the morning after Comey, in his first televised interview since being fired previous year, said that he believed Trump was "morally unfit" to be president and recounted several meetings with the him, including one in which Comey says Trump asked for his loyalty.

"I saw Jim Comey last night and I said: 'this guy swung an election?' I don't think so", she said.

"She hurt herself; she was never at 50 percent", she said.

"I rolled my eyes and said, 'Really, this guy swung an election?' It was sarcastic", she said.

She also smacked down the IJR for running with ABC's framing. "This misleading headline should include an eye roll and question mark", Conway wrote, while attaching an ABC News article with a headline claiming he she attacked Comey for swinging the election. "I don't think so".

Days before the election, Trump argued it "took guts" for Comey to "make the move that he made in light of the kind of opposition that he had where they're trying to protect her from criminal prosecution".

As excerpts of the book "A Higher Truth" were given to the media, it quickly triggered a rage within Donald Trump, who then vented his frustrations on Twitter, with the president referring to Comey as a "leaker", a "liar", and a "slimeball".
