Jammu and Kashmir: Army soldier may have joined Hizbul Mujahideen, say reports

Indian Army soldiers take their positions near the site of a gunbattle on the outskirts

An army man, who has been missing since Saturday, is believed to have joined terror group Hizbul Mujahideen, along with two others, in Shopian district of South Kashmir, police said here on Monday. Mir, 23, is with the J&K Light Infantry and was stationed in Bihar.

It may be mentioned here that police confirmation came after Mir's picture wielding an AK-47 rifle went viral on social media. He was to be posted to Jharkhand and was reportedly unhappy over his transfer order. The sources in Police told Mirror, "Idrees Mir had gone missing from Shopian, along with other two locals youth". Mir was in the second year of his BA course when he joined the Army. "We are ascertaining the details of the case", the officer said on condition of anonymity, adding his family had informed police a few days ago that their son was missing. The Army so far maintained that he is "missing" with no information about his joining any terror group. He had arrived in his home village in South Kashmir's Shopian on April 12, and has been missing since April 14.
