IOS 11.3 Messing with iPhone 8s with Third-Party Screens

Do teens really adore the iPhone? Or do they have old ones handed down? Josh Miller CNET

Korean mobile technology solutions firm Firstface will file a suit against U.S. tech giant Apple for copying a feature to unlock the smartphone screen through bitometric sensor-based user authentication, according to news reports on April 12.

Apple is offering $29 battery replacements for the iPhone 5s, iPhone 7 Plus and all models released in between for the duration of 2018. Aakshay Kriplani, CEO of Injured Gadgets told Motherboard, "This has caused my company over 2,000 reshipments, Customers are annoyed and it seems like Apple is doing this to prevent customers from doing the third-party repairs".

There is little affected users can do for their smartphones other than have the screen replaced again, hopefully with one that will work regardless of the iOS 11.3 update.

This fix requires the faulty iPhone to be opened again and make the repairs.

Apple Stores have been flooded with iPhone users in search of iPhone battery replacement since the end of a year ago. The problem was related to the Touch ID fingerprint scanner embedded within the home button.

It's no secret that Apple Stores have struggled to keep up with demand for iPhone battery replacements, and it appears the company is trying a new strategy to reduce fix times for customers with affected iPhones. In fact, a recent survey found that 31% of iPhone owners who didn't upgrade to the iPhone X cited the device's expensive price point as the primary reason.

Third-party fix shops, which are popular in the era of glass phones and frequently smashed screens, often undercut Apple and offer services Apple does not. Apple might have seen it coming and that's the reason Tim Cook and team is restlessly brainstorming to arrive at a magical figure they could tag the upcoming iPhone with and see people falling for it, like 2015.
