Facebook adds fuel to privacy row: We track non-users, says Zuckerberg

When Texas Sen. Ted Cruz dug into Mark Zuckerberg on this exact topic this week, Zuckerberg floundered, insisting that the far left views of Silicon Valley don't leak into how Facebook does business, but some former Facebook employees tell a different story.

The compensation costs include the security provided at Zuckerberg's home and during travel and the expense incurred from his private air travel.

"Mr. Zuckerberg, you've said you're sorry". The trick is few people really understand what they're giving, or are capable of truly controlling it. Zuckerberg seemed to concede as much after a lawmaker brandished a stack of papers said to be Facebook's data collection and ad policy disclosures to its users. The incident wiped off billions from Zuckerberg's wealth while Facebook's stock prices slumped in a week. While Zuckerberg was grandstanding about the right of users to have control over their data and his hope that Facebook would be a platform for "all ideas", the consequences of his company's conciliatory policies toward governments continued to affect individuals' right to free expression in places like Turkey and Russian Federation. Hypothetical situations proposed by Congress were shut down by Zuckerberg, stating that there is a "core misunderstanding" of how Facebook works in regard to user information. The data he transferred is utilized to make shadow profiles for both Ijaz and Sadia - so that if either goes along with, they will be recommended Ali as a companion.

SEN. DURBIN: "If you've messaged anybody this week, would you share with us the names of the people you've messaged?"

Facebook will now offer financial rewards to people who report bugs and leaks in the platform, said Collin Greene, the company's head of Product Security, in an official blog post.

Let's begin by exposing the economic roots of the problem: Facebook is a publicly traded company that makes money predicated on a simple proposition: it's free. Any violations of the 2011 agreement could subject Facebook to fines of $41,484 per violation per user per day. Based on their patent applications, they're planning a heck of a lot more of the same.

The Senators and Representatives themselves seemed to have limited ideas either as to how to regulate Facebook specifically and data privacy more generally. It will also require political advertisers to provide additional transparency, as a new weapon in the reported "arms race" Facebook finds itself in with Russian propagandists.

According to Facebook, this program will reward those with first-hand knowledge and proof of cases where a Facebook platform app collects and transfers user data to another party to be sold, stolen, or used for scams or political influence.

The 2011 consent decree capped years of Facebook privacy mishaps, many of which revolved around its early attempts to follow users and their friends around the web.

That structure could on the one hand end up disadvantaging less affluent users while simultaneously allowing wealthier consumers - the ones advertisers might be most eager to court - to bypass ads altogether.

Another option may be to cut back on some of the features that Facebook is providing.

In the short term, I suggest Facebook formally, and publicly, demonstrate that the company understands the enormous role it plays in global affairs. In other words, we will have to live with the animal we don't like!

You know, these are the kinds of things they'd like to know about you because they're hoping some advertiser will want to buy that ad category. Most of the Luddites posing questions to Zuckerberg clearly could not fathom the depth of the answers required and why a single "yes" or "no" were not always possible. How are we protecting our data? Zuckerberg stopped well short of that, but expressed willingness to work with Senators on legislation.

We in the veteran community have noticed Facebook has come down hard with some veterans groups including my own, which are politically agnostic in nature.
