Even Non-Facebook Users Are Safe From Facebook Tracking

We've been oversharing online all these years and now we're surprised by a lack of privacy

Most of the political ads about divisive issues that ran on Facebook before the 2016 USA presidential election were sponsored by "suspicious groups" with no publicly available information about them, according to a study released on April 16 and based on a database of five million ads on Facebook.

Late last month, Facebook began notifying users about the change, saying, "We understand the importance of keeping your data safe, and we are making it easier for you to control which apps you share information with".

Rodgers said 9 percent of Facebook users have deleted their accounts and another one-third of users are using Facebook less following Zuckerberg's congressional hearings. Zuckerberg did not respond. There are news items that YouTube is illegally collecting data from underage kids; that 45% of kids between the ages 8 and 10 - I believe in the USA - have their own YouTube accounts.

"I would not assume that it is private that it's not being collected and tracked by Facebook - it is", she said. But fallout from Facebook's most recent data-sharing scandal has left plenty of users wary of the service and helped convince Bumble's creators that it's time for an update. The policy extends to other Facebook-owned services including WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger, and other products.

Zuckerberg told Congress Facebook is in the business of advertising and assisting advertisers, not in the business of selling data to anybody.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg often came across as one of the smartest people in the room as he jousted with USA lawmakers demanding to know how and why his company peers into the lives of its 2.2 billion users.

Carolina Milanesi, the author of the study, found that when asked on how Facebook can regain user trust, rather than getting more tools and settings, a lot of the users are asking for the company's transparency.

He said in this particular case, "Facebook had a technical hole in their system that allowed Cambridge Analytica to pull down more detailed information about your friend circle". "And Amazon, Google and Twitter all offer login features", Facebook said.

"What I think really needs to happen here is not just us reviewing content that gets flagged for us", Zuckerberg said.

Despite the large amount spent on his security, Zuckerberg only received $1 in compensation for acting as Chief Executive and received no stock.

Facebook admitted that Cambridge Analytica may have taken some direct messages through the app, and The Guardian has confirmed this.

BOOM will review English language news stories flagged on Facebook, check facts, and rate their accuracy, it said. In 2012, Facebook agreed to stop using face recognition technology in the European Union after Caspar, the Hamburg data protection commissioner, accused it of violating German and European privacy regulations by collecting users' biometric facial data without their explicit consent.
