Ant McPartlin pleads guilty to drink-drive charge

Ant Mc Partlin news Jill Halfpenny Ant and Dec date Britains Got Talent

The rather unfortunate moment occurred as media waited outside Wimbledon Magistrates' Court for the presenter to make a statement, after he pleaded guilty to being under the influence when he crashed his auto last month.

The judge described McPartlin's previous "exemplary character" adding: "I think it will have quite an impact on you to know you're no longer a man of good character". Another driver involved in the collision, who had his wife and child in the auto with him at the time, said that they could have died as a result of Mr McPartlin's "reckless driving".

After being involved in a collision with two other cars on 18 March in Mortlake he was breathalysed and found to be more than two times over the drink drive limit.

It was announced in court the breathalyser reading for Ant McPartlin was 75mg of alcohol per 100ml of breath.

Ant was also banned from driving for 20 months, however, his legal representatives requested Ant complete a drink-driving course in order to reduce that ban to 15 months.

The driver of the other Mini auto also told the court they thought they could have died in the incident.

In a letter read out in court, the telly star was full of remorse, as he admitted: 'I'm very sorry I did this. He said he was "ashamed and mortified" by his actions. He said that he would be getting specialist help to "ensure that nothing of this nature happens again".

His defence barrister, Liam Walker, told the court: "Anthony McPartlin is sorry".

McPartlin appeared alongside Donnelly on TV screens over the weekend as Britain's Got Talent aired its pre-recorded audition shows.
