Air strikes on Syria will not change course of war: UK's Johnson

Prime Minister Narendra Modi

There are fears that it could be a precursor to a campaign of cyber attacks by the Kremlin, and the Foreign Secretary said Britain must take "every possible precaution" to guard against it.

British foreign minister Boris Johnson on Sunday said the Syrian war must be allowed to "proceed as it will", after unprecedented Western strikes against the country's alleged chemical weapons facilities.

The head of the United Kingdom foreign policy justified Monday the last week's missile launches, adding though that the attacks weren't aimed at removing Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. I'm afraid the Syrian war, in many ways, will go in its terrible, miserable way.

Britain and France on Saturday joined the US-led missile strikes, which came a week after a deadly attack on the town of Douma where civilians were hit with chlorine and sarin according to the Western powers.

"There's one overwhelming reason why this was the right thing to do and that is to deter the use of chemical weapons, not just by the Assad regime but around the world", Johnson said.

"The Council is supportive of all efforts aimed at the prevention of the use of chemical weapons", says the draft conclusion of the summit published by Politico EU.

On the same show, Jeremy Corbyn expressed his unease over the strikes and criticised the prime minister for not recalling Parliament to vote on the issue.

Lithuania's foreign minister, Linas Antanas Linkevicius, said today: "Not everyone is capable to take part in the air strikes, but it's important to support [them]".
