Win or lose, TCU fans glad March Madness drought is over

The TCU Horned Frogs couldn't get it done in the Big-12 Championship after losing in the quarterfinals of the Big-12 Championship to the Kansas State Wildcats by a 66-64 (OT) margin, however, the Horned Frogs still has a successful season posting an overall record of 21-11 (9-9 Big-12) and earned a 6-seed as an at-large bid for the NCAA Tournament.

They'll face Michigan State in Detroit on Sunday in a matchup of schools with basketball lineage.

The Orange - seeded No. 11 in the tournament - found an unlikely hero in Marek Dolezaj, who scored 17 points in the win.

Freshman Oshae Brissett had a double-double and led Syracuse's second-half comeback, and the Orange - the last team to make the NCAA Tournament - held on for a 60-56 victory over Arizona State on Wednesday night in the First Four.

Syracuse was 0 for their last 7 in the half.

Bottom line? Many said they hope they don't have to live through three presidencies to get back to March Madness play. In the Horned Frogs' first five conference games, two were decided by a point (both were losses) and all five were within five points. With a chance to take the lead, Arizona State's Shannon Evans II missed a 3-pointer with 2 seconds to go. Dixon's first team lost the final five games of the regular season before reaching the finals of the Big 12 Tournament then winning the NIT. The Sun Devils struggled against zone defenses during conference play and were facing one of the most fabled in the country. The Horned Frogs are averaging 8.5 three-pointers per game on 40.0% shooting from beyond the arc. Sophomore guard Tyus Battle (19.7 points), who ranks third in the ACC in scoring, has reached double figures in all but one game this season and played more minutes (1,323) than all but one Division I player.

Texas Southern got its first ever NCAA Tournament win, a rout of North Carolina Central.

The Orange are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 Friday games and 5-1 ATS in their last 6 NCAA Tournament games. The Tigers then were paired with Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Tournament victor N.C. Central, another historically black school that was making its second straight appearance in Dayton for a play-in game with a completely new starting lineup.
