Thousands more flee eastern Ghouta, Russian official says

Airstrikes killed scores of people in Eastern Ghouta, activists said, and tired residents streamed out on foot for a second day, as Russian-backed government forces pressed their campaign to capture the last big rebel bastion near Damascus.

Linda Tom, a spokeswoman for the United Nations humanitarian affairs office (OCHA) in Syria, added: "Today, hundreds of people in eastern Ghouta reportedly continued to leave".

The Kremlin on Wednesday denied involvement in air strikes on Syria's rebel-held Eastern Ghouta enclave that monitors say have killed at least 250 civilians since the start of the week.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights was not able to confirm whether who carried the strikes over the town which targeted civilians. "We do not agree (with them)", said presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov in response to a USA briefing saying that Russian Federation was responsible for the attacks.

The Syrian regime has killed more than 1,390 civilians in the enclave, as per the report by the Observatory, which relies on a big network of sources over the ground.

In contrast to these measures taken by the Syrian government to protect its citizens, the armed terrorist groups, backed by well-known countries, continue to use civilians in Eastern Ghouta as human shields and prevent them from exiting the area through the corridors by targeting them with gunfire and shells.

The enclave on the outskirts of Damascus has been under seige by forces loyal to President Bashar Assad for five years.
