The Walking Dead season 8, episode 10 The Lost and the Plunderers

The cards don't necessarily tell the story chronologically, so I have reordered things a bit.

Before joining Daryl to cover their tracks, Rosita says that they just lost Carl and can't gamble with more lives while Dwight watches from the background and seemingly knows that they are talking about him. There was pain, fear, grief, and acceptance and Chandler showed all of them in the most subtle but impactful way because my heart broke all over again (I hate this so much). I [?] ... maybe you'll beat us. Rick initially dangles his gun from the branch, but further reflection prompts him to take it back.

Now you might think this doesn't sound too bad, but let me break down exactly why this whole sequence was a joke - an insult to not only the fans - but the characters most of all and exemplifies everything that has gone wrong with TWD since season 7. "You could have just let me save all of you", Negan says.

Though Rick and Negan's greatest bond is their mutual hatred for each other, they've mostly been portrayed as opposites. For a moment there, I was anxious that she was about to jump into the blender with them, but it looks like AMC isn't done with her yet. Back in the auto, Rick rationalizes his decision in the wake of Carl's death. With Jadis, she wasn't so much purely evil as she just was desperate to hold on to what was hers and out to help her own people the most. While this may seem like a heartfelt moment I saw it as another moment that was stolen from Carl and Rick. Minutes later, Cindy and the others come back in and unshackle them. After seeing more of them make it out of the building, Morgan makes his getaway when they start shooting at his hide-out. This was an entirely different Jadis, however, one rocking a white satin nightie and speaking without her character's frustrating shorthand. Rick opts to read Carl's letter to Negan instead, and gets so worked up he immediately gets Negan on the walkie talkie.

When Rick and Michonne showed up, they got trapped with Walking Scavengers everywhere.

Still, if you're feeling in the spirit, make sure to pour out some applesauce for the fallen Heapsters this week, for whom there will no longer be "time for after".

As Carl lays dying, he confesses to his killing of the young boy who was turning over his gun from season 3. He assures him he delivered the message to Jadis and her people after Negan asks him how it went. As Rick and Carl talk, Carol and Ezekiel try to dissuade Morgan from killing Gavin but before Morgan can do anything, Gavin is stabbed through the throat from behind and the killer revealed to be young Henry. Rick says no, repeatedly.

In the van, Rick asks Michonne what she thinks Carl met. Many understandably shudder at the thought of Rick Grimes's demise-but at this point, it's also worth asking what Rick really contributes to the series. But what I hate most of all is that in the end after Carl kills himself, we learn the flash forwards were Carl's vision of the future and Negan is there.

Rick tells Negan that Carl is dead, and Negan's genuinely sad to hear it. He takes a couple of Carl's letters - one for him and one for Negan - along with the walkie and leaves the vehicle.

The Walking Dead's latest episode took some interesting strides in pushing us closer to All Out War's conclusion, including the degenerating mindset of Rick. Negan asks how Carl died. It was about Siddiq. In fact, his excuses for doing that were very similar to the excuses he gave Carl about Siddiq. It was an impressive adjustment for a show that isn't known for its character development, and if more episodes were like this, it could be the show we all hoped it could be.

The dialogue for the Saviors is boring and overly dramatic.

"The Walking Dead" airs Sundays on AMC. Here's a sneak peak at episode nine, "The Lost and The Plunderers".
