Texas waitress' act of kindness results in a $16000 scholarship

Female Studnet with Classmates

"I don't know her name but I heard this elderly man tell her his hands don't work too good", Laura Wolf wrote, describing how Williams stepped in and immediately began cutting his food.

Williams didn't think twice about helping the customer.

Evoni works as a waitress in a Waffle House in La Marque, Texas, to save money for her college tuition. The post went viral on Facebook and has received over 121,000 likes and over 62,000 shares. She and her mother were brought to tears when she was presented with a 16-thousand dollar scholarship to Texas Southern University.

"I didn't know the photo was taken until a couple hours later", Williams told the Houston Chronicle.

Since no act of kindness goes unnoticed or wasted, the teenager soon received a big surprise. "When I saw it, it's just something I would do for anybody".

Wolf's awesome photo has since been shared more than 40,000 times on Facebook.

"Without hesitation, she took his plate and began cutting up his ham".

TSU says they have assigned a guidance counselor to help Williams enroll at the university, according to KHOU-TV. The LaMarque mayor also honored her with a special proclamation for her act of kindness.

Even better? Folks at Texas Southern University aren't the only ones paying attention to Evoni. "It just so happens somebody got a picture of this one time of many", said Hocking. "It's so wonderful that the younger generation cares about the older generation".

"He was like, 'My hands are not functioning too well.' He needed me to cut his food and I did", Williams told CBS News affiliate KHOU-TV. "It's something I would do any other day".
