Snapchat users may be able to tag friends in their stories

Snapchat is Testing User Tagging in Snaps, Just Like on Instagram

Snapchat's version of the feature asks users to swipe the "more" option, displaying the name of the person tagged, their handle, a Bitmoji and an "add" button to follow their account.

Apparently the new tagging system is now being rolled out - so be on the lookout! The feature hasn't rolled out to everyone though: we've been able to make it work with some of our own phones at Engadget, but not everyone can create or see the mentions.

What's unusual is that the tagging tool doesn't offer an autofill feature at this precise moment in time, meaning you'll need to remember the exact username of the person you're looking to tag - or risk promoting a complete stranger.

The feature was first spotted by comedian Matt Rappaport on Twitter, and was later confirmed by Snapchat to tech site TechCrunch. Usernames will automatically generate a tappable link to the associated profile. Many users are turned off by the new update, but perhaps new features such as this one will be enough to get others back on their Snap game.

By testing the new feature, Snapchat is joining other social media platforms that let people tag other users in their posts.
